Google Apps has a new look!
See below for details about what’s different.

How can I try the new look?

For most apps, we've probably already switched you to the new look, so you don't have to do anything. Otherwise, you can switch to the new look yourself. Here's how...

Click the Switch to the new look link at the top-right of your Gmail window.
Docs and Calendar

Open the gear menu and choose Try the new look.

Open User settings from the Sites gear menu. Then turn on the Use the new look option.

That's a lot of white space for a small display! Can I compact my view?

Yes, you can. We like how the white space adds simplicity to the new design. But it does reduce the number of messages or docs you can see at once in your inbox or Docs List, especially if you have a small screen. We therefore added some settings that let you adjust the white space, so you can see more info at once.

In Gmail or Docs, open the large gear menu and choose a different Display Density setting.

Can I switch back to the old look afterwards?

For most apps including Google Calendar and Docs, the new look is permanent so you can't switch back to the old look. For a limited time, however, you might be able to switch some apps back, like this:

  • Gmail. Open your gear menu and choose Revert to the old look temporarily.
  • Sites. Go back to your Sites User settings (in the gear menu) and uncheck Use the new look.
If you don't see these options, your new look is permanent.

Will the new look eventually become permanent?

Yes. The new look has already become permanent for some apps and will soon be for all. Hopefully you've had enough time to get used to the changes!

I can't find any option to try the new look.

Your domain administrator has likely opted out of showing promotions for new features, in which case  options to try the new look won't be available. In that case, you'll have to wait until the new look becomes permanent before you can use it.

Why are we making these changes?

The way people use and experience the web is evolving, and we want to give you a more seamless and consistent experience —one that works no matter which Google product you're using or what device you're using it on. The new Google experience that we're working toward is founded on three key design principles:

  • Focus. With the design changes in the coming weeks and months, we're bringing forward the stuff that matters to you and getting all the other clutter out of your way.
  • Elasticity. The new design will soon allow you to seamlessly transition from your desktop computer to your mobile phone to your tablet, while keeping a consistent visual experience. We aim to bring you this flexibility without sacrificing style or usefulness.
  • Effortlessness. Our design philosophy is to combine power with simplicity. We want to keep our look simple and clean. But behind the seemingly simple design, the changes use new technologies to make sure you have all the power of the web behind you.
